Reviews about Marshalls

Tonight while waiting for a co worker to finish shopping at a Marshalls in Ft. Myers, FL, my other co worker and I witnessed a most disturbing encounter with what appeared to be the store manager, and a young male associate. (Gulf Coast Town Center, 10017 Gulf Center Driver, Fort Myers, FL 33913, check out time on the receipt is: 19:50:32.) The young man approached the check out, and attempted to purchase what appeared to be a dinner plate, a floor mop of some sort, and a couple of small items. The man who appeared to be the acting manager, (but obviously had no management ability), started to belittle the young man, and denied him the ability to purchase his items. The acting manager told the young man, that he did not do employee purchases at the end of the night. (It was 7:50PM.) He also, told the young man that if he had wanted to purchase the items, then he should have purchased them on his break. Finally, after much berating from the acting manager, the young man said that the break was only 15 minutes, and he needed to eat. The acting manager, to our shock, then told him, that he should choose whether he wanted to eat, or make a purchase. The young man proceeded to go an put his merchandise back, as the acting manager limped through the store, and was still berating the young man, and even yelled out to a clerk in the shoe department, "that you either made your purchases on your break, or you didn't make them at all, isn't that right." The unseen clerk, yelled back, "that's right!!!" My co worker and I that witnessed this account, were so uncomfortable, and felt the acting manager was way out of bounds. If you want to discipline, or correct an employee, you do it quietly, and away from others, not embarrass them in front of other employees and customers. We were so appalled that we didn't know what to do. We even discussed going to get the items the embarrassed employee was putting back, and purchasing them ourselves; however, we were concerned this may bring even more backlash on the young man. It was obvious from what the young man was purchasing, that he was not buying fancy things for himself. It was a plate to eat on, a couple of small items we could not identify, and a mop type item to clean his floors. To me it appeared the young man was just trying to purchase very basic items for himself. Sitting here now, I really wish I would have called this "acting manager" out, but again, did not want to create more problems for this young man. It is obvious that this "acting manager" has an "INFERIORITY COMPLEX", and is BULLYING his employees at every chance he gets. If he can be that awful to an employee in the view of customer, just think what he must say in the back rooms!! The wish I would have gotten the name of the "acting manager", but he was a white male, and seemed to have some kind of disability, as he favored his left leg, and wobbled as he walked. I personally will not visit this store again, and highly doubt, that after seeing the way management treats their employees, that I would bother to visit any other Marshalls. I took the survey that was printed on my receipt; however, I really want someone in Upper Management to realize how this man is degrading people, and making their customer's feel uncomfortable.
